Mysterious message/Message mystère
Hello,
On Wed, 10 Sep 2003, you sent me a message :
"Filk is what filkers do" (and to go with the functional definition, back in the halcyon(?) days of my (mis-spent) youth, we didn't worry about defining it. We just did it.)You are right twice: the quotation was mistyped, and it is easy to theorize, easier than to do the thing itself. But remember, I'm French, and I may be the only French man that has ever heard about filk.
The early eighties are far away now, and the filk "movement" appears like a kind of miracle to me. I really regret not to have been here with you, in those days. I must admit I feel a bit lonely, when I hear some songs which are from time to time heart-tearing. I wonder where you are and what you are doing when I look at your pictures on websites. There is only an ocean between us, but even with FTL, we would not meet.
And I really do not want to become a "filk specialist", like those who theorize about Blues, or Jazz and generally miss it.
I never heard about the Halcyon (group, band ?). There used to be a website www.halcyon.com dedicated to filk, but it's down now.
Once again, please forgive my unawareness of the rich history of filk, and of his present becoming.
And, by the way, who are you ? Even in the header of your mail, I could not get your adress... I have received your mail as if I did send it.
Regards from France.
